“What is your morning routine!” we shout at every influencer and CEO that crosses our path. As a young and malleable human being eager to mimic what the greats do, I am always trying my hand at a variety of morning routine staples. Some just do not work for me: avoiding my phone for 45 minutes after waking up, drinking warm water with lemon or meditation. Other habits like jade rolling, applying multiple serums or working out ebb and flow depending on my mood. But the one constant is a rich morning cup of coffee.
I am convinced if productivity had a scent, it would smell like freshly ground coffee beans. In my mind, productivity and coffee are so intertwined that I have not written a single article without my coffee cup at arm’s length. But since I am always on the go, I often buy my lattes at the nearest coffee shop. While it is hard to ignore the convenience factor, according to Greenmatch we waste around 16 billion paper cups a year. These paper cups often contain plastic liners, which makes it difficult for most plants to recycle them.
To reduce the number of paper cups you use, we advise you to bring your own reusable mug to the office or when at coffee shops. This will help reduce the 6.5 million trees cut down each year, and 4 billion gallons of water and energy wasted. Several coffee shops like Starbucks, Caribou Coffee, and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf even incentivize you to bring your own cup by offering a price discount.
With International Coffee Day on Sunday, Sept. 29, I decided to celebrate the renowned holiday by ordering myself a new reusable coffee mug. If you are also looking to celebrate in style, here are some of my favorite options on Amazon.
