The Only Food Instagram Accounts You Need to Follow

Authored by Drew Carlos

We are drowning in food — or more accurately, we are drowning in pictures of food. A quick search of #foodblogger on Instagram pulls up over 31 million posts. #foodstagram has another 53 million. And #foodie pulls in over 125 million. From vegan to plant-based to meat eaters and deserts, the options are endless. This also means that finding exactly what you want can get overwhelming at times.

Food bloggers (like most influencers) are a dime a dozen, but there are some true gems in the mix. In fact, this is the kind of blogger tea we are here for — a nice cup to sip with freshly baked cookies.

So read on for the food bloggers you should be following. They might even convince you to get cooking.

Can you imagine if your significant other told you that you were moving to a farm on the North Dakota-Minnesota border? Most people would probably run away, but Molly Yeh ran with the challenge. Yeh — who graduated from Juilliard with a degree in percussion — burst onto the food scene with her memoir, “Molly on the Range: Recipes and Stories from An Unlikely Life on a Farm.” The Food Network star (her show is called “Girl Meets Farm”), Yeh is known for merging her Jewish and Asian heritage with her Midwest surroundings. On her feed, you can find everything from matzo lasagna to brisket tater tot hotdish.

Wonton dumpling soup '馄饨汤' to start your Monday⁣😍 Hello friends, I have finally perfected my wonton, the shape and filling is just what I needed, yay🙌! I made a batch last time but didn't get into this feed, it was too big🙈 Wonton is a smaller version of dumpling, so all ingredients need to be finely chopped. 😉 ⁣ Recipe (yields 30-40 wontons)⁣ Ingredients:⁣ ~ 1 package wonton wrapper (used Myojo), thaw at room temperature⁣ ~ 3 cups of Napa cabbage, julienned ~ chopped: 1 🥕, 6-8 caps soften shiitake/black mushrooms, 3/4 cup of chopped tofu (used local fried tofu/ pan fry 8oz firm tofu & season with salt)⁣ ~ 1 bunch of mung bean thread, soaked in hot water until soft ~ 3 tsp soy sauce/tamari, 1 tsp grated ginger⁣, sesame oil, oil, white pepper & salt to taste, & handful of chopped scallions⁣ ~ blanched green veggies⁣ ⁣Soup – Homemade/veggie stock seasoned with scallions, fried shallots, & white pepper⁣ ⁣🍃Place julienned Napa cabbage in a large bowl & gently massage it with 1 teaspoon of salt. Set aside for 10-15 minutes. Meanwhile, in a heated pan with 3 tsp oil, sauté mushrooms until fragrant, add in carrot, tofu, ginger & stir continuously for 1-2 minutes. Drizzle some sesame oil, add soy sauce, & cook until mixture is coated with sauce. Turn off heat.⁣ 🍃Using a cheesecloth or with your palms, squeeze all liquid out from Napa cabbage. Add Napa cabbage, tofu mixture, mung bean threads, chopped scallions in a bowl & mix until well combined. Season with white pepper, sesame oil and salt, if needed.⁣ ⁣🍃See my stories on how to wrap these. 🍃In a big pot with hot boiling water, slowly put in wonton one by one, do not clutter. Cook until wonton floats. Place wontons in a bowl & ladle soup over, add blanched veggies & garnish with scallions & white pepper. Serve warm.😋 Let me know if you have any questions and have a great #meatlessmonday 💗 . . . #dumplings #wonton #bestofvegan #letscookvegan #easyrecipes #lunessincarne #thekitchn #plantbased #crueltyfree #veganismo #forkyeah #buddhabowl #tryvegan #buzzfeedfood #healthyeating #veganrecipes #foodgasm #f52grams #veganfoodie #food52 #realsimple #foodandwine #vegana #thrivemags #gloobyfood #feedfeed #woonheng

If your kitchen is inexplicably small

It's Friday. It's been a long week, right? So, here's the dinner plan: 1 pizza dough, homemade or storebought; some mozzarella, parmesan and thinly sliced green onions, and then the fun part: fresh asparagus peeled into a ribbony tangly nest for the easiest, simplest, and most worthy-of-repeating spring pizza there is. For anyone that has ever lived in a tiny New York City (or frankly, anywhere) apartment, meet Deb Perelman. You will not find Michelin star food on her site — instead, you can find elevated comfort foods. And while I could talk about her skillet-based pasta or her confetti cookies, there is one brilliant aspect of Perelman’s site: the “In Season” tab. Want to cook her spring panzanella, but not sure if you will be able to find the produce? Click on the “In Season” tab for easy access to what is growing now and perfect for your next dish (Perelman has taken out the Google middleman). And one click on specific produce, like corn, will take you to a host of recipes featuring the ingredient. Genius.

If you have food sensitivities

I need your help! Its my last day on Martha's Vineyard and I’ve been getting all my ducks in the row for the podcast and having a little creative powwow with myself to decide on the editorial direction of the blog for next year. I'd love to hear from YOU about what you're craving. It can be anything from specific recipes made GF or healthy like these grain-free chicken meatballs, to general topics you'd like more info on like leaky gut, hashimoto's or adrenal fatigue (got a big post on this on the blog tomorrow). The more targeted your queries or requests, the better. But I'll take any and all ideas as I plan out the next few months of content. Please leave me some crumbs in the comments section.💕💕 Happy holidays friends. xo P

If you are looking for healthy, delicious recipes with a side of pick-me-up commentary, Phoebe Lapine is your person. And she has the skills to back it up — she has a published memoir. When Lapine was in her twenties, she was diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis — an autoimmune disorder that causes chronic inflammation of the thyroid. Her memoir, “The Wellness Project: How I Learned to Do Right by My Body, Without Giving Up My Life,” takes you on her journey to finding the right balance between health and healthy living. This same mindset carries over into her recipes. Lapine will give you a healthy recipe, yes, but she will also give you a reason to make it. Want to cook with an eco-mindset? Follow one of her #lowwastewednesday recipes. Interested in SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth)? Lapine is writing a new book on the topic, expected 2021. Check her out — you will get inspired, and you will get cooking!

If you have a sweet tooth (and love music)

Today in the kitchen – take very good care of yourself. My version of that this weekend is this Gluten-Free Tahini Dark Chocolate Olive Oil Skillet Cookie. Served warm, with a friend and Real Housewives of New York. ✨ Recipe link in the bio!

I know, those two do not really go together. But Joy Wilson makes it happen. Let’s back up, though. Wilson is a three-time published cookbook author who lives in New Orleans. She runs her account, Joy the Baker, where you can find recipes for everything sweet from almond flour snickerdoodles to harissa caramel corn. But Drake, yes, I mean the singer, is the real star here. Wilson runs the account @drakeoncake, where you will find gorgeous pies and cakes featuring Drake lyrics — like it was God’s plan all along. (You are very welcome.) And while you can’t buy the cakes, maybe they will inspire you to whip something up of your own.
