It is 2019 and (thank goodness) sex and sexuality are no longer taboo topics. But as we all explore the world of porn and vibrators, it can get a bit, well, hard to navigate sex in a healthy way. That is why it is always helpful to have a few gurus, or in this case, ‘sexperts’ on your side.
Luckily, insight is just a podcast away. Sex-positive podcasts are taking over the airwaves, so no matter your taste or preferences, there is likely one out there that speaks to you.
Now, without further ado, let’s talk about sex! The Sunday Edit shares its top five favorites ahead.
1. Project Pleasure
Project Pleasure hosts — and friends — Anouszka Tate and Frankie Wells used to produce a sex and relationship show on British national radio before moving to your friendly podcast airwaves. They invite their listeners to “strap in” as they discuss big-ticket topics like your libido, having better orgasms and the best sex toys. The animated British hosts feature a weekly interview with a sexpert like Dr. Sarah Jones, a professor of the history of sexuality in the U.K., and Florence Schechter, founder of the world’s first vagina museum. If you are new to sex podcasts, you will appreciate their lighter tone and positive, down-to-earth approach. On this podcast, it is OK to include feelings, romance and how to talk to your partner about sex in the discussion.
2. Zero Fucks Given
No topics are off-limits with friends Daisy Almeida, Heather Buechler and Teri Ingram. On the show, they discuss sex shenanigans — that can (and do) happen to real people (mostly themselves) — like the first time trying anal sex to getting caught masturbating. They also tackle subjects you have always wanted to talk about but were too embarrassed to discuss. For example, the age-old question, does size really matter? (It depends.) Or, is monogamy realistic? (Depends on whom you ask.) If curiosity often gets the best of you, you will enjoy the banter of these fun ladies.
3. F**ks Given
Not to be confused with Zero Fucks Given, F**ks Given is the new podcast from the founders of Come Curious. Back in the day, hosts Florence and Reed met on a porn set and have been discussing their sex lives ever since. Every week on this podcast, they welcome a new guest to share their best and worst sex stories. Recently they talked to a well-known porn star (who had oral plane sex on his way to the interview!). They also talked to Liv Cassano, a sex-positive writer, who explains which moves you should try at the gym for better sex (hip thrusts are key).
4. Guys We’ve F***ked
If you enjoy the blunt talk, you will appreciate friends and stand-up comedians, Corinne Fisher and Krystyna Hutchinson. The dynamic hosts of Guys We’ve F****d are trying to end slut-shaming stigmas. Instead, they are having honest conversations around the fact that it is OK for women to enjoy sex. The goal is to empower listeners to take charge of their sex lives. In a recent episode, they talk about the psychology of needing a partner who is also broken if you have experienced trauma. They also talk about a rainbow of subjects including visiting sex clubs, gang banging and having sex with younger men.
5. Queer Sex Ed
There is no shortage of sex podcasts out there, if you are straight, that is. But fed up with being left out, host Sara (former sexual health and LGBTQ educator) wanted to expand the conversation so everyone in the LGBTQ community could be included, too. Forget everything you learned in a sex education class in school. Recent episodes discussed STI testing, the best sex toys and using safe words. This podcast takes inclusivity to another level and is not afraid to talk about coming out, identity, group sex and trans dating. If that does not scream positivity, we do not know what does.
