Now that everyone is working from home, I thought I would share my style tips as my wardrobe suffered a lot in my early years as a remote employee. I’m a firm believer in dressing for success and found that bumming it all day every day caused me to feel very unmotivated and very un-me. However, wearing office clothes to my home office felt a bit strange — and like a lot of effort. To find a balance between loungewear and workwear, I curated a capsule wardrobe of staples that I wear regularly.
Find the six styles I swear by for a chic, yet effortless home-wear wardrobe, ahead.
Mom Jeans
No one likes wearing jeans at home. Okay, maybe some do, but I am against it. That is until I broke in my first pair of mom jeans and realized just how comfortable they are. Now, I wear mom jeans at least a few times a week. My go-to style is a pair of worn-in Levi’s 501 Skinny Jeans that I scored at a vintage shop, but I also love the more sophisticated styles from MOTHER.
Oversized Knit Sweater
I live in sweaters. From a simple, one-color knit to a funky vintage pattern, they’re a great way to show off personal style without much effort. Not to mention: They are essentially an elevated take on sweatshirts. My favorite sweaters are a mix of bright and neutral hues but always in a chunky knit.
Basic Tee
I am a firm believer in basics and my work-from-home style calls for a simple tee on the regular. To keep it casual, I lean towards more oversized styles but find that a fitted T-shirt adds a more put-together appeal when paired with my go-to mom jeans. If I have a work meeting, I will dress it up with a jacket or a statement necklace to spice things up without too much thought.
Overalls
If I had to wear one thing for the rest of my life, it would be overalls. I loved that they require little-to-no thinking, style well with a basic tee or sweater, and are almost as comfortable as my beloved sweatpants. I recently purchased a wide-leg pair that make my classic look feel slightly trendier in case I have to leave the house but boasts that same comfortability that I know and swear by.
Headband
Some days (okay, most days), I roll out of bed for a 7 a.m. meeting with no time to even brush my hair. With hair accessories on-trend right now, there is no shortage of headbands lying around my vanity. Right now, I am obsessed with the ’90s padded headband look. It adds a sophisticated touch to my messy mop and looks chic with my hair slicked back in a low bun or in its natural wavy state.
Fuzzy Slippers
Since I work from home, shoes are not part of my wardrobe requirements. I typically opt to go barefoot, but on days when my toes are feeling extra chilly, I reach for my favorite pair of sheepskin slippers from EMU Australia. I have them in a mustard yellow color and love the pop of color they add to my look — even if no one but my dogs are around to notice.
