Age is merely a number — and fashion is timeless. No one embodies this quite as well as Grece Ghanem, a Montreal, Canada-based personal trainer, former microbiologist, fashion model and content creator. As a 50-something, she’s challenged people of all ages to have self-confidence and go bold with their styles. Her Instagram has an impressive following, where she shares her most recent looks, products and designers she loves, and plenty of wardrobe inspiration. Ghanem is a breath of fresh air and positivity for a world that’s mostly obsessed with youth, proving that beauty only increases with more laps around the sun. Here, she took time to chat with Sunday Edit about her daily routine, her best advice for those defining their style, and more.
When did you start your Instagram? What inspired you to begin it?
Grece Ghanem: I started my Instagram account over five years ago as a hobby with my daughter Cheyenne. I have always been passionate about fashion since a young age. It was a creative outlet and project for my daughter and me, where we would share photos of my outfits and things that inspired me. It became a space now that I share with a vast community; I can’t believe how fast it grew and developed!
Tell us about your daily routine, from waking up to going to sleep.
GG: I am an early bird and love to start my day with my morning routine. I drink my morning elixir and complete my skincare routine. I do a Pilates-based workout for about an hour. I have a few private training clients as well in the morning. I also enjoy a swim on most days; it is my sacred ‘me-time.’
Once I am done, I will do my NuFACE microcurrent routine and prepare my smoothie bowl for lunch. The rest of my day is spent answering emails, planning content, and taking care of business. In the evening, I never go to bed without completing my nighttime skincare routine. I sit in bed and watch some Netflix while doing my red light therapy on my NuFACE device.
What is your number one wardrobe must-have? Why?
GG: The perfect pair of denim trousers. The ones that make you feel confident and that you can throw on with anything. I have a pair of Levi’s jeans that I had since I was in my 20s. The fit is incomparable, and I love to style them with a denim shirt.
What is something you’d never wear? Why?
GG: I would not say ‘never’ as I am always up for trying and experimenting. However, with age, I am much more comfortable and aware of what flatters my body. I would say today I avoid very short and very skin-tight dresses. It no longer resonates with me!
For 20 and 30-somethings who are defining their style, what advice would you give them?
GG: Experiment and be curious, and be confident! As you try, look for inspo in magazines you will start to develop your style. However, it will only truly feel like your style when you feel confident in it!
In a few words, how would you describe your style?
GG: My style is pretty much in harmony with my mood. I would describe it as basic with a twist; I love to mix feminine and masculine silhouettes, high-end pieces with vintage or contemporary pieces. I want to exude timeless modernity!
When do you feel your most beautiful?
GG: I believe that beauty starts on the inside and radiates outwards. I feel most beautiful when I am happy and healthy!
