The beginnings of a New Year can bring about feelings of hope for the future and what’s to come. But, it can also bring up wonder — which is why so many of us turn to the stars to unlock what is possible in a new year. Astrology is a great tool for gaining perspective on what’s going on in the cosmos and how that impacts everything down here on Earth, but it’s not the only way to catch a glimpse at what’s to come. In addition to seeking insight from astrology, many turn to numerology for a better look at what the numbers have to say.
Rooted in symbolism and connected to astrology (more on that later), this ancient practice is said to date back as far as 500 BC — though it didn’t get its name until the early 1900s — and is a way to gain perspective on the energy certain numbers hold, the symbolism of numbers. For example, 2022 is said to include energies such as love and self-worth with a specific focus on relationships and receptivity.
“In numerology, it’s believed that there is a mystical relationship between numbers and events, personality traits, and even your life destiny,” explains Aycee Brown, a psychic channel and spiritual guide specializing in Human Design, Astrology, and Numerology. “Numerology can assist us in knowing the current energy that we live in,” she adds. Curious to know more? We break down the numerology of 2022, plus what it all means for this year, ahead.
The Numerology of 2022
In numerology, it is believed that each year has its own number, which represents a certain type of energy or various energies. “In numerology, the year 2022 equals six,” says Brown, explaining how you can calculate the year’s number by adding up the individual numbers of 2022. So, 2 + 0 + 2 + 2 = 6, which means the universal year number is the number six.
“The number six is ruled by the planet Venus [which is] the planet of love, beauty, and aesthetics,” says Brown, noting how Venus also “rules your relationship to money and what you value.” Brown explains how, in astrology, Venus also “rules the second house of Taurus and the seventh house of Libra.” The second house is all “about money, material things, and self-worth,” while the seventh house is “about long-term relationships, marriage, and business partnerships,” says Brown. The numerology of 2022 encompasses these energies and makes for an excellent opportunity for us to “learn how to receive,” says Brown.
While we might all feel the impacts of a six-year, Brown says that those with Libra and Taurus in their astrological or natal charts — especially those with a lot of Taurus and Libra in their charts — will “feel the energy of this year more intensely.”
How to Navigate a Six Universal Year in Numerology
With love at the forefront of 2022’s numerology, Brown says that this universal year six “is going to have a big influence on what unconditional love means,” noting how “it is often said that you could meet your soulmate during a six universal year.” The reason for that is because the energy of the number six allows you to “let your guard down and be vulnerable,” Brown explains. According to an April 2021 report from the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction, 44% of Americans say that commitment is more important to them post-pandemic. Even younger consumers are looking for committed relationships — 81% of Gen Zers want to be in a relationship within the next year, Match findings revealed.
Another way to use this year’s energy is by focusing on your home life. “The six-year is perfect for planting seeds and creating foundations that support us,” says Brown. Whether you’re looking to move or give your home a big and refreshing renovation, Brown says, “the six universal year [is] a great year to create the perfect home.”
Navigating the numerology of 2022 isn’t just about creating your dream home and strengthening relationships (and possibly finding your soulmate!); it’s also about goal setting for the long run, too. “The universal six-year is great for setting achievable goals,” explains Brown. “Since this year is about our foundations, you can set goals that will grow over time — plant seeds that you want to see flourish in the years to come,” Brown adds.
Lastly, with the second house being all about “money, material things, and self-worth,” these are also common themes that might arise this year. But, Brown says it’s less about money and material and “more about the value and what you value with your relationship to things.” This energy can cross over into the other aspects of this year’s energy, and you might find yourself better evaluating what you value when it comes to romantic relationships and friendships, as well as your relationship to love and money.
