WNBA Athlete Monique Billings may be known for her skills on the basketball court — she plays for the Atlanta Dream — but the 26-year-old California native is making a name for herself in the wellness world, too. The first-time author released her debut book, Finding Balance, an ultimate guide for those seeking to do just that: adopting a more fulfilling life that keeps personal passions and one’s well-being in perfect harmony. In short, it’s a playbook for living your best life, stress-free.
We spoke with Billings about her journey to finding balance in life and career, how she unwinds after long days, and the skincare products she can’t live without on travel days.
How would you define being successful in finding balance?
“My scope of what success is while finding balance is making a plan and executing that plan every day. This looks like cultivating a system and program that is catered specifically for your individual well-being and needs. It’s focusing on daily deposits and small wins, and watching them add up towards your bigger goals. Successfully finding balance is implementing daily rituals and practices that make you feel more at home within yourself. ”
Can you share your own journey to achieving this harmony? When did you realize it was time to pursue a more balanced life?
“My journey towards finding harmony and peace within my own life stems from a very young age, about 9 years old. I remember my dad would always tell me, “find balance within your mind, your body, and your spirit.” I could not fully grasp what that meant at that age, but as I have continued on my journey, I see how it shows up in everything that I do every single day. I want to chase my highest self daily, and I love how it feels to focus on being my best self and tapping into my inner treasures. It’s the practice of daily self-mastery! ”
What can readers expect and take away from reading your book?
“This book contains my keys to unlocking the door to improving our overall mental wellness and finding balance among the multiple roles we play in life. I provide tactics that I’ve used to generate more peace, joy, and understanding within oneself on our individual journeys.”
Playing professionally can really put the body through stress. How do you unwind and take care of your body after every practice and game?
“I consider myself the self-care queen! I am mindful and intentional to listen to what my body is telling me it needs each day. Whether it be that I need to get a massage to relieve stress and muscle soreness, feeding my body good foods, unplugging from my phone, daily yoga, and stretching, or going to the spa to get my nails done, I always make sure I tend to my inner and outer being with an abundance of self love.”

What does your skincare routine look like on a day you’re playing or working out vs a day you’re off?
“My skincare routine on days where I have workouts or a game is simplified compared to an off day. On days where I know I will be sweating considerably, I try not to layer my skin with too much product. I like keeping it simple with a serum and moisturizer that has SPF in it. On the other hand, on days when I’m off, I’ll go the extra mile with more layers. A nice serum paired with a moisturizer, followed by an SPF, eye cream, and an oil occasionally depending on what the weather is outside.”
