Women have spent decades upon decades fighting for rights, equality, equal pay … the list goes on. March 8 is International Women’s Day, making now an excellent time to take a look back at the women who made it possible for us to even write these words.
And that is why our choice for this week is “A is For Awesome!: 23 Iconic Women Who Changed the World,” written by Eva Chen and illustrated by Derek Desierto.
You might be questioning why we would pick a children’s book. Aside from the fact that education should start at an early age, there is a lot you can learn about life looking through the lens of a child’s eyes. Flip through the book and you will be reminded of the strength of Harriet Tubman, the courage of Malala and the influence of Oprah. These are real-life superheroes, and women who did indeed change the world.
With a surprise at the end — meant to inspire young girls (and even us old ones) — be reminded that you are also a superhero. You are a woman that can change the world.
