Turn up at Home With These 5 Party Board Games

When you look back on your childhood, what is one thing you remember vividly? Personally, there wasn’t much to do in the suburbs, so everyone spent most of their time playing games: four-hour-long rounds of Monopoly, Scrabble, Taboo, you name it. When we were not playing games, we were watching them on television. GSN was the go-to channel (Game Show Network for the uncultured). Alex Trebek raised us.

But now that I am older, no one is quite as interested in games as they used to be. “It takes too long,” they whine as you pull Catan out of your purse. You grimace as they suggest going to the bar instead. They warned you that adulthood would be hard, but they did not warn you how hard it would be to leave your house past 10 p.m.

Thankfully, adult party games have really taken off these past few years, as we can see with the influx of new games released on the market. Jaime Rosenzweig, the co-director of marketing at What Do You Meme says the team often asks, “how do we bring the experience of being on Instagram off your phone and into your life?” when working to develop new games. Whether it be the nostalgia aspect or simply needing an excuse to return to analog, we completely stand behind the resurgence of board games.  Here are nine games we love that are perfect for your next game night.

Guilty as Charged!

Guilty as Charged! board game.
Guilty as Charged!, $19.95Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white.

Millennials love to stare at different things and scream “that is so you!” This party game comes with 200 cards that all start with the line “Who’s most likely to… ” It is the best game to play with a group of friends who all know each other well. It’s all fun and games until you are guilty as charged for being most likely to drunk dial an ex or take advice from a psychic.

INCOHEARENT

Incohearent board game.
Incohearent, $19.99 Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white. Some of you may remember this game from its days of viral fame on Tik Tok. Each card has a gibberish phrase on it, and you have to guess what it is. Your friend gets to make a fool of themselves by reading cards like “lits got diss burr rad” which is the incoherent way of saying “let’s get this bread.”. Choose one of three categories: party, kinky and pop culture. It’s impossible not to crack up as you watch your friends speak in tongues.

Zoot!

Zoot! board game.
Zoot!, $17.00Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white.Celebrity couples, go! States that start with the letter C, go! Zoot! is the party game that tests your world knowledge and ability to thrive under pressure. After picking a category card, everyone names as many items that fit under that category as they can. The first one to get stumped yells Zoot!

What Do You Meme?

WHAT DO YOU MEME?, $29.99Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white.WDYM was one of the first-party games to take the internet by storm. After raising money on Kickstarter, it beat the childhood classics and ranked number one on Amazon’s best-selling toy or game list in 2017. Memes are ingrained into today’s culture and this game gives you the opportunity to create your own hilarious memes through photos and caption cards. Snag one of the many expansion packs: The Real Housewives, Stoner, Rick & Morty, NSFW, Mean Girls, Game of Thrones, and Basic.

Agree to Disagree

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white. There is listening to your relatives give their unprompted hot take and then there are Agree to Disagree cards. While I personally would not bring this home for the holidays, these 52 hot topic cards are guaranteed to spark thought-provoking conversations. From history to politics, to pineapple on pizza, this is the perfect game for those who love a healthy debate.

That’s What She Said Game

That's What She Said board game.
That's What She Said, $24.95Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white.Everyone has that one friend that can make anything dirty. Now say that same friend launched a board game. What would it look like? We think it would look a lot like That’s What She Said — the game of twisted innuendos. The super competitive self can take a backseat for one night. This card game (no board to flip if you lose) can turn any boring dinner into an outrageous, laugh-out-loud extravaganza. As everyone places their funniest reply cards to the prompt “things you should never say to your mom”, remember: “if you had fun, you won!”

For the Girls: Adult Party Game

For the Girls board game.
For The Girls, $24.99Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white.Girls’ night in just got a major upgrade. You and your girlfriends will die laughing as you pick between five category cards: most likely to, never have I ever, truth or dare, rapid-fire, and best of the best. Another game that went viral on Tik Tok due to its daring nature. Get ready to spill secrets, belt out Beyoncé songs and text your ex.

Buzzed

Buzzed board game.
Buzzed, $19.99Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white. The worst part about college parties were the never-ending rounds of beer pong and flip cup, watching bros lose their mind once the ball made it in and chanting “it’s all in the wrist!” We want more as a society and Buzzed came to deliver. An elevated King’s Cup, you take turns pulling prompt cards, and if it applies to you, you drink (responsibly).

The Hygge Game

The Hygge Game board game.
The Hygge Game, $20.00Amazon

A black button with the words, "Shop Now," in white. On nights where you just want to stay in and chit chat in your pajamas, The Hygge Game came to deliver. Hygge is the Scandinavian methodology for enjoying the good things in life — coziness, togetherness, and wellbeing. With 300 travel-friendly cards, these inquisitive questions are perfect for your next gathering. Skip the small talk and gossip in favor of really getting to know those around you. Ask Uncle Faisal if genius and madness go hand in hand and ask Aunty Shelly to describe an opportunity she turned down, but now wishes she accepted. You may see them in a different light.
