As the mastermind behind Rizos Curls, a Latina-owned business that prioritizes all-natural haircare for curly-haired girls, Julissa Prado almost always has a packed work schedule. But when it comes to the day before another hectic work week, the entrepreneur makes it a point to relish and truly stay present on Sundays. Here, she shares her undying love for farmers’ markets, HBO’s House of the Dragon, and her weekly non-negotiable.
In our new series, “A Perfect Sunday,” we spotlight our favorite tastemakers and their ideal Sunday vibe, life advice, and beauty and style must-haves. Here, Julissa Prado shares her routine.
Wake-Up Routine:
“On Sundays, I indulge a bit and sleep a little later than usual. I normally wake up around 6 a.m., but I’ll sleep an extra hour or two on Sundays. Sundays are the day I don’t set the alarm to wake up. As soon as I wake up, I turn on my playlist, starting with “A Sunday Kind of Love” by Etta James; then I drink water (I always have a water bottle on my nightstand!) and apply 100% shea butter on my lips. Hydrated and moisturized is the vibe.”
Morning:
“On Sundays, I keep my beauty routine light. I’ll cleanse, apply vitamin C serum, a light moisturizer, and SPF. After that, I practice intermittent fasting, so I’ll throw on some workout clothes and head for a hike for about an hour or so. I’ll then head to the local farmer’s market and pick up my favorite detox juice, The Vampiro. It’s made with beets, oranges, carrots, celery, and cactus. That’s my post-hike treat. I love it because it gives me so much energy.”
Afternoon:
“I do spend a lot of time at the farmers’ market on Sundays. I’ll visit every booth and local shop. Before I head home, I’ll grab lunch from whatever is available that day at the farmers’ market. Then I go home and start my full, hardcore, self-care routine. It’s a head-to-toe moment. I’ll start with cleaning my scalp with the Rizos Curls Detox Scalp Scrub, and then I’ll move to scrubbing and cleansing my whole body. Once I’m done, I’ll sit in my tub with a face mask and relax.”
Evening:
“Once I’m done with my full-body, self-care moment, I turn my attention to my home. Of course, I’ll pick up things around the house. Still, I also use the evenings to organize myself for the week with any important work and personal commitments I need to plan for, whether it’s scheduling grocery shopping, dry cleaning, etc. For dinner, I love to have a great dinner on Sunday nights, so I’ll either treat myself to a good dinner out at Night + Market (where I order the Crispy Rice Salad and Pad Thai), cook a really good meal, or order takeout from my favorite local restaurant.”
Bedtime Ritual:
“To fully wind down for the evening, I’ll turn on a candle, grab a blanket, and turn on House of the Dragon until it’s time to go to sleep on fresh, clean sheets, which are a must for Sunday nights.”
