The (virtual) 72nd Emmy Awards gave us sequined PJs, comfy couture, and culturally motivated apparel, as the most talented in TV were honored in true 2020 fashion: accepting awards from home. The socially distanced ceremony, more intimate than years past is one we won’t forget, proving you don’t need a red carpet for an evening of buzz-worthy fashion moments.
We asked Mexican-American celebrity stylist Jenny Rodriguez, who has styled Rocsi Diaz for this ceremony, to share her picks for best-dressed from the evening.

The Insecure creator, writer and actress was elegant in a custom cut-out dress by Sergio Hudson. The tangerine color was so gorgeous, and I loved the detailing on the neckline and cut-outs on the sides. She eventually traded in Stuart Weitzman heels for Nike Cortez sneakers, bringing casual and cool to the Emmys unlike ever before.

The evening’s first presenter stayed true to her style — a simple, sleek black Christian Dior dress with a diamond necklace. The Morning Show actress, who was joined at home later in the evening by her Friends co-stars Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow, is a perfect example that minimal is elegant and black is timeless. But her pre-Emmys look was so 2020!

For her first look, the Little Fires Everywhere actress looked classy, as always, in a strapless Oscar De La Renta floral gown with a structured bodice, and jewels by Aurate New York and Monica Vinader. She aptly captioned her Instagram style post, “Little flowers everywhere,” before posting an image of herself in her second look — a leopard-print sequin-covered Dolce & Gabbana dress.

Accepting her award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Television Movie in a hot-pink Schiaparelli pantsuit paired with a Breonna Taylor tee (you can find more information on justiceforbreonna.org), the Watchmen actress equally stunned in a second ensemble. She shared a pre-recorded video on social media of what would have been her actual red carpet look — a bright blue and embellished Schiaparelli Couture gown with Stuart Weitzman stilettos.

The Emmy Award-winning TV host opted for a blush sequined dress by Michael Costello, which featured a high slit and dramatic structured shoulder. To finish off her gorgeous, yet edgy look, she wore strappy Giuseppe Zanotti heels in rose gold. If you ask me, she was truly stunning on the screen and IRL. I know because I styled her for the evening!

The Black-ish actress wowed in a metallic gold dress with a rise-and-fall hemline by Alexandre Vauthier, complete with Jimmy Choo heels, vintage Tiffany & Co jewels, and a matching gold face mask. Her revealing dress may have been bold, but it was her face mask that made the ultimate statement: stay safe.

Simply put, I loved her dress! The Black-ish and Grown-ish star wore a custom feathered Prada gown that emulated Old Hollywood glamour, paired with jewelry from Cartier. Her look was equal parts fun, flirty and chic.

The first-time Emmy Award-winner never disappoints. The 24-year-old actress, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama for her role in Euphoria, was absolutely stunning in her first look — a Christopher John Rogers dress with a plunging neckline. I especially loved the black and purple colorway. She completed the look with a beautiful necklace from Bulgari and black Christian Louboutin heels. Indeed, a winner in more ways than one.
