If there’s a central theme to Amber Fillerup Clark’s life in Arizona, it’s family. The hairstylist turned influencer turned entrepreneur has four kids — the youngest of whom, Pepper Gene, was born in May. But you may also know Fillerup Clark for her other baby, Dae Hair, her ultra-successful hair-care line featuring desert-inspired ingredients like prickly pear and cactus flower. Needless to say, she’s busy — so weekends are a special treat. Here’s how she squeezes in self-care in between morning pancakes, family meetings, and pre-bedtime TV.
In our new series, “A Perfect Sunday,” we spotlight our favorite tastemakers and their ideal Sunday vibe, life advice, and beauty and style must-haves. Here, Amber Fillerup Clark shares her weekend routine.
Wake Up Routine:
I was raised Mormon so Sundays growing up we always went to church and stayed home with the family. That’s mostly still the case, except that now I’m in my “I’m figuring it out” era with religion. We sometimes go to church but mostly look at Sundays as a fulfilling, relaxing day. So usually we lay in bed as a family and have a lazy morning. If I get a chance to do my skincare routine, I start by exfoliating with ZO Skin Health Exfoliator, the best exfoliator I have ever used. I follow that with both the Clarins Double Serum and The Best Skin Ever Seabuckthorn (my sister told me about this product and I’m hooked).
Mid Morning:
If I feel like getting a workout in, David and I will head to our home gym — the kids like to play in there and do a little “workout” themselves, so we’ll open the garage and the kids can run in and out, play basketball or on the gymnastics mat. I take my AG1 by Athletic Greens every single morning after I work out; it helps with overall gut health, which helps with skin. We make a yummy big breakfast (usually homemade fluffy pancakes with buttermilk syrup) and just do whatever feels like we need that day…whether that be going out in nature, going to see family, or just staying home.
Lunch:
My kids love swimming so we’ll head outside, swim together, play music over the speakers, and bring a picnic lunch outside. Usually I’ll put in our Dae Monsoon Moisture Mask and let it sit in my hair and rinse it out after we are done swimming. The mask leaves my hair shiny, soft, and extra moisturized, and manageable. It’s such a great step to incorporate on Sundays as part of your self-care routine, and preps my hair for the week of heat, workouts, etc.
Afternoon:
I often start to feel anxious on Sundays when I have busy weeks ahead, so something I always do that calms me down is scheduling. I schedule my workouts for the week, a date night, something fun I can look forward to, and also a time to try a new recipe. Then we have a little family meeting — with four kids there is a lot going on so this helps everyone know what to expect.
Evening:
We almost always meet up with my parents and sisters and the kids’ cousins on Sunday for a big family dinner. It is always my kid’s favorite!
Bedtime Ritual:
On Sundays I love to run a bath and wash the girls’ hair to prep for the week. I love our Dae Signature Conditioner used with our Dae Vegan Detangle + Style Brush for tangles, they work so well! Sometimes I’ll do a mini spa treatment for them and rub their feet, or do a face mask. After bathtime, David or I will switch off putting the baby down and we’ll watch a show with the older kids. I end my night by lighting an incense, turning on my red bulb lamps, and reading.
