Sunday Riley is proud to be the official skincare partner of Milan Fashion Week. We’re ringing in the semi-annual event with exclusive interviews featuring industry-leading beauty pros and experts.
Going beyond the surface when it comes to nailing a runway-ready look is key. As a seasoned makeup artist who’s worked career-making events like Milan Fashion Week and the Cannes Film Festival, Giulio Panciera knows this adage all too well — and you will too after peeking his religiously-followed skincare regimen.
“I consider myself my own model before everyone else, so I am crazy about skincare!” he tells the Sunday Edit, while unintentionally providing us with our new favorite mantra.
Ahead, check out a highlight reel of our fireside chat with Panciera. Unsurprisingly, his answers are all equally inspiring, aspiring, and ready to transform the way you approach beauty.
On the Power of Makeup:
“I don’t think anyone should be afraid of getting inspiration from runway makeup. Now more than ever before, I see this artistic freedom on young people out in the world. I love this absolute freedom of expression through makeup. After all, applying a makeup look is art; it’s creation and it’s about having fun and getting confident with the person in the mirror, the person we present to the world.”
On His Makeup Musts:
“What I cannot miss in term of touch-ups is definitely powder — a translucent one for fair skin tones and oil-absorbing papers for darker skin tones. Eyebrow brushes are a must for grooming wild brows; always brush up! I’m also obsessed with lip balm, lip oil, and tons of highlighters to a look.”
On His Skincare Routine:
“I am obsessed with healthy, glowing, lively skin. I consider myself my own model before everyone else, so I am crazy about skincare! I always start with a detoxing foam or gel cleanser to wash my face, and I follow it up with every kind of scrub in the shower. Then, I use a glycolic toner to wake up the skin in the morning, and before going to bed I follow it up with a glycolic serum and a vitamin C-rich moisturizer for brightening. Every day, I use an at-home cleansing device, similar to Clarisonic, to eliminate all the dead skin cells. In addition to surface-level skincare, I also drink at least 2 liters of water per day and take complementary supplements like omega-3, hyaluronic acid, and reishi.”
On His Favorite Industry Moment:
“Without a doubt, my favorite memories involve working my first Cannes Film Festival in 2014, where I did supermodel Natasha Poly’s makeup — the look was even chosen as ‘best makeup of the day’ by Vogue Paris! And I can never forget the time I worked with Rihanna during her Fenty show in Paris, and of course my first show in New York City, which saw Mariacarla Boscono under my hands, for the legendary Karl Lagerfeld’s show.”
On What Inspires Him:
“Paris has been my biggest inspiration; it’s a city I love deeply that full of culture and people who inspire me every day — whether it’s someone at a high-profile event or a stranger on the street. And of course, social media is a never-ending source of inspiration too!”
