Ahead, get tips from Kattan herself.

“People are stepping out of their comfort zones a little bit,” says perfume guru Mona Kattan, the founder and “nose” of Kayali Fragrances. “Fragrance is supposed to be fun, and it allows you to time travel to certain memories or your favorite places."

1. THINK ABOUT SCENTS FOR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS

Expand the possibilities beyond the standard daytime and evening options. “I have fragrances that I like to wear to the gym, scents I spritz before bed, and one I love to layer with everything,” says Kattan.

2. NARROW DOWN THE NOTES YOU LOVE

“I would recommend finding a couple of your favorite notes and searching for fragrances that contain those,” says the expert, adding that “Samples are a great way to discover new scents and test them before committing to full bottles.”

WHAT IF I’M DRAWN TO ONE SPECIFIC SCENT?

You do you. Even with her extensive collection, Kattan admits she favors a certain type. “Fragrances within the same fragrance family can differ drastically,” notes Kattan, who says, “I personally love gourmand fragrances and have so much fun seeing how they can all vary depending on the notes they are paired with.”
