With Halloween just around the corner, chances are you’ve been searching around for the perfect costume. If you’re celebrating the season with your plus one, it can be really fun to coordinate and find couples costumes that are creative and unique.
To help, we’ve rounded up some of our top couples’ Halloween costumes for 2021. From superheroes to movie stars, fictional characters to reality stars, here are some of our favorites.
Daphne and Simon
Dreaming of wearing a gorgeous, Bridgerton-inspired gown but have nowhere to go? Then Halloween is the perfect excuse! Grab your partner and don your best, early 1800’s apparel. From gorgeous gowns to three-piece suits, radical headpieces and intricate updos — just don’t forget to do your hair in ringlets and wear your elegant elbow-length gloves!
Tiger King
If you ever wanted a good excuse to rock a mullet or exquisitely crimped hair, then the cast of Tiger King will be your best friend this year. All the rage in 2020 (but we demand a do-over, ok?), Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, or even a tiger will do the trick for your dynamic duo.
Squid Game
We have a feeling teal tracksuits are going to be a bit difficult to find this season, as everyone seems to be talking about (and watching) Squid Game on Netflix. The Korean drama is super popular right now and makes for the perfect gender-neutral costume, too. Available on Etsy (or you can DIY) these polyester suits are replicas of the player’s and are also a super comfortable way to dress up this year.
JLo and Ben
They’re back and better than ever. Celebrate the reunion of two of Hollywood’s mega stars by putting on your best Jenny-from-the-block outfit (don’t forget her signature hoops and slick, side-parted ponytail) and your partner dressing in a casual button down and jeans. Go the extra mile and carry some Dunkin Donuts just like Ben was in the viral paparazzi photo!
Keeley and Roy
It’s been just about a year since these Ted Lasso favorites came into our lives and we fell in love with Keely’s signature high ponytail and Roy’s rather gruff choice of language. We’ve seen their relationship grow and have its ups and downs, and couldn’t help but to cheer them on from the sidelines. If you have a larger group, add in Rebecca, Coach Lasso, Jamie, and more to represent the whole football-loving gang.
Sandy and Danny
You better shape up! The iconic couple from Grease is a classic, reliable costume that is quite easy to put together. Chances are, you have all you need in your closet already! Whether you want to be sexy heels-and-a-cigarette Sandy or her shy, schoolgirl self, put your Danny in head to toe black and slicked back hair and you’ll be good to go!
Romy and Michelle
Do blondes really have more fun? Find out for yourselves with these fun and flirty pink and blue dresses (or something similar!) that Romy and Michele wore to their famed, highly anticipated high school reunion. Remember, if anyone asks, you invented Post-Its.
Jack and Sally
Celebrate the best of both worlds while paying homage to the cult-favorite couple from The Nightmare Before Christmas. Rock a pinstripe suit like the Pumpkin King himself, while your partner dresses in brightly colored patchwork dress topped with a cherry-red wig. If you’re up for the challenge, go crazy with some face makeup to really nail the look.
Johnny and Baby
Have the time of your life (see what we did there?) dressing as Johnny Castle and Frances “Baby” Houseman from Dirty Dancing. A tight muscle-tee and black jeans paired with a fun and flirty dance dress is all you need to embody the look of the bad-boy-meets-quiet-girl duo. Just remember, nobody puts baby in a corner.
Peter Pan and Tinkerbell
Head to Neverland where you’ll never grow up, all while looking adorable and embracing your inner Disney fan. Don’t forget a little bit of pixie dust to complete the look!
Donut and Coffee
Can you think of a better pair? For a fun and festive theme, rock your favorite donut and coffee costumes (the more sprinkles, the better!) Just like sweet and savory, you’re meant to be together after all!
Mario and Luigi
Can’t you just hear the video game theme song playing in the background? The 90s are back, after all. With Super Mario Bros, the opportunities are endless for group costumes, too. Throw in a Princess Peach, Toad, Bowser, and/or Spike and roll up dressed as the whole crew.
Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion
The rap duo-of the year is undoubtedly Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. Hot off the incredible success of their hit single WAP, the pair rock sleek side-parted updos and matching pink and yellow bodysuits in the music video, which can be somewhat easily created at home with the right fabric and leotard combo.
Instagram vs. Reality
Filters are pretty, and FaceTune can come in handy sometimes, but we all know carefully curated Instagram photos don’t really show our reality. Whether it’s a look you’ve seen that you tried (and failed) to recreate or you’re poking fun at yourself for what you share versus what you keep close, doing an Instagram vs. Reality or Filter vs. No filter theme is a fun and oh-so-timely way to celebrate Halloween.
The Joker and Harley Quinn
These two standouts from Suicide Squad make a fun costume set, especially for those who have a knack for makeup! While certainly not the most stable duo, their brightly colored outfits and dramatic, clown-meets-comic style makeup looks are a great way to get into the Halloween spirit.
Bob Ross and a Painting
Pay homage to everyone’s favorite artist and of course, one of his masterpieces with this creative couples costume. Whether you go with the officially licensed costume or decide to DIY it up yourselves, you’ll be the talk of the party. For extra fun, make the painting portion of the costume yourselves! It could be a really fun date night to paint a canvas you’ll later wear. Bonus points if you paint along while watching Bob Ross!
Back to the Future
Take things back in time (literally and figuratively!) with these film inspired costumes from Back to the Future. Whether you go with a Marty McFly and Doc pairing or as Marty and Jennifer, “Great Scott!” – you can’t go wrong!
