Talking Style, Beauty And Wellness With Kendra Scott

Authored by Mellanie Perez

Kendra Scott launched her eponymous brand in 2002 with only $500, she never guessed that 17 years later she would be heading a billion-dollar business. Or that she would rack up major accolades such as Forbes’ list of America’s Richest Self-Made Women and Upstart Business Journal’s Top 100 Entrepreneurs of the Year under her belt.

Somehow, she manages to handle it all. “My name is on the door [of my company], and that carries a lot of weight,” she says. “That’s the nature of an eponymous brand — I am the face, whether in a professional or personal setting.”

And it is clear she takes this at face value. Scott lives by three values: family, fashion and philanthropy. All of which she seamless weaves into her daily life and brand.

Anytime she makes any sort of media appearance, it is impossible not to admire her perfectly coifed hair and fashion-forward ensemble. We could actually say the same about the jewelry, too. Her signature Danielle drop earrings are a mixture of sunny and regal.

Read on for what Scott has to say about her style, beauty and wellness routine.

Keep a Consistent Beauty Routine

Every morning, I cleanse using my Clarisonic facial brush, and I follow that with an Ultra Sheer moisturizer by SkinMedica and a layer of my favorite sunscreen, EltaMD UV Daily SPF 40. When it comes to makeup, Colorescience is a must! It’s a 3-in-1 product that brightens, corrects and protects with SPF 50. Plus, it has a subtle touch of coverage and color to give my skin a natural glow.

Be on a First-Name Basis at all Your Beauty Spots

I get HydraFacials (Westlake Dermatology is a go-to here in Austin), and once a week I apply a hydro peptide purifying mask in the evening. It leaves my skin with a beautiful, healthy glow! I also love to visit LACQUER for a luxurious manicure or pedicure, and Mirror Mirror salon for a blowout! When I’m in Los Angeles, I love to visit Nine Zero One. I adore the stylists and will travel just to get my hair done. It’s such an indulgent experience — I always leave looking and feeling my best.

Become the Best Version of Yourself

When I’m being my best, I’m able to serve others. Spending time with my boys always fills me up, but I also like to take some time after a busy day for self-care. When I have time, I’ll light a candle (our Amethyst candle is my favorite!), and apply a hydrating face mask. I also love to unwind after a long day in a hot bath with Flower’s Barrow bath oil from Lush.

Master Emails From The Elliptical

I do my best to get a good workout three times a week, but as any entrepreneur knows, sometimes life just gets a little crazy! Even in the busiest of times, though, I find that exercising in the morning gives me an extra boost of energy throughout the day. I usually workout at home and Pilates is my go-to, but I have also mastered the art of sending off my morning emails from the elliptical!

Know Your Style

I’d say I have always had an affinity for the old Hollywood glamour look of the 1950s! I think my personal style is a mix of that classic feminine glam with modern, trendy additions. Saloni is one of my favorite brands — I love the bold patterns and feminine structure of her dresses. There’s also something about a chic pair of shoes that makes me feel powerful and ready for anything. My favorite brands of the moment are Christina Louboutin and Manolo Blahnik. Jeans are a staple for me on the weekends, and my favorite brands are Acne and Current/Elliott.

Look to Your Inner Circle for Inspiration

It’s a priority for me as a designer to be innovative. I draw inspiration from the current trends and go from there. I’ve always approached clothes as the canvas and jewelry as art. To design my collections, I get inspired by my travels, customers, and the women I work with every day. I’m constantly asking my team how we can utilize our core design principles — shape, color, material and value — to surprise our customers with something they’ve never seen before. As for my top fall trends, earring stacks are in! Add one or two delicate studs to your statement earrings for maximum impact. Also, mixed metals are tending in a big way this fall. Our Lynne Necklace does the mixing for you, and our Kase Earrings is the must-have statement of the moment; it pairs well with any look.
