If you have not fallen down the Netflix rabbit hole and wasted a whole day away watching “You,” we recommend doing so ASAP. For those of you that have, welcome to the club (and to your new life of a private Instagram). The TV show originally premiered the 10-episode season on Lifetime — no, it is not a Netflix original — in September 2018. “You” is a demented and eerie take on exactly how far someone would go for love (or pure obsession, you decide).
But hear us at The Sunday Edit out: You have to read the book. The series does a good job bringing Caroline Kepnes’ story to life, but you will truly lose yourself in the book’s pages. Lovers of Gillian Flynn, Stephen King or those that just want to understand the hype all have a place here. Follow Joe Goldberg along his path toward love as he meets Guinevere Beck, the writer he wants to protect and will do anything to do so — even murder.
Joe is just as creepy (yet, sweet?) in the book, Beck is just as spacey, and Peach? Well, Shay Mitchell hit that character spot on. But the book does what only a book can do, it gives you more — more plot, more drama, more Peach! And the best part? You do not have to wait an undefined amount of time for a second season. Grab the sequel, “Hidden Bodies,” to continue Joe’s story. It is just as chilling as book one.
